Day 1: A Marriage that Endures
Read Romans 15:5-6
Thank you for taking some time and reading through some of these devotionals. If you attended the marriage conference, it is our hope as a church that you were blessed by what you heard. We want these next seven days to guide you and your spouse into the presence of God. This is because a marriage that is guided by the presence of God is what will sustain our marriages not just for today but for the future as well.
When we look at what Paul wrote in Romans 15:5-6, we learn quickly that the endurance that we are looking for in our marriage comes from God. What did Paul write? “May the God who gives endurance…” (He also gives encouragement too, which is a beautiful thing). But, we learn that God gives endurance.
Wherever you are at in your marriage today, let this be something you and your spouse believe and rest in: your marriage is meant to endure. Therefore, look to the God who will give endurance. The Apostle Paul also wrote that it is God who will give us the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had. To have the same mindset as Christ Jesus had toward one another positions us to endure for the glory of God.
Remember that your marriage is meant to endure, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. As you and your spouse embark on reading these devotionals, ask the Lord to have His way in your hearts as you seek Him together.

“Jesus, we love you. We give thanks for our marriage and for allowing us to come together. May you lead us, shape us, and refresh us in you again. We want to have a marriage that endures for your glory. So, may you help us with that. Speak to us over these next several days. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
