Day 4: Endure Together by Trusting God for Today
Read Matthew 6:9-13
What we have come to know as the Lord’s Prayer is probably pretty familiar to you. You may even be able to recite it. But, there is a verse in this prayer that would serve our marriages well to remember again. Jesus said in Matthew 6:11: “Give us today our daily bread.”
Remember that God’s people, as we read in the Old Testament, relied on daily manna from Him. They could not store it for tomorrow because there was an important principle for the people of God - they had to learn to depend on the Lord for the day that they were given.
God knows what your marriage needs today.
Maybe there is financial hardship, relational strain, health issues, challenges at work, challenges at home, and so on and so forth that are adding unique worries and pressures within your marriage right now. The great temptation can be to rely on our own strength, our own power, our own insight rather than trusting that God is more than able to meet every need today.
He knows our need before we even ask Him. But, we also must remember that yesterday’s manna is not enough to sustain us today. We need to come to God ready to receive from Him this day our daily bread.
He will not fail you. So, may you and your spouse come to Jesus today fully depending upon His ability to take care of you both today.
He is that good. He is that close to us, and He wants us to bring our need to Him, fully trusting Him for His provision today.
